Chess without a Board

Some days it takes effort to believe in humanity.
Every time I read the news, I am confronted with abuse of power, corruption, cruelty, disrespect, and people boasting about their loss of moral compass. It can feel as if the worst voices are the loudest. As if the world is spinning out of control and sending us into darkness. Like playing chess without a board, with no idea what the rules are and anything can happen.
And yet.
When I watch a father cradling his sleepy child in a restaurant, when I remember the neighbour who cooked an extra batch for my sick mother-in-law for 20 years (!), when I see the train conductor holding the door open for late passengers to hop in, when I witness doctors and nurses waving a healed patient goodbye, when I think of all the strangers who donate blood, when I am given slack even though it was my mistake in traffic, when people go out of their way to care for and protect animals, and in so many such beautiful moments, I realise that many people choose kindness every day. These moments rarely make headlines. But they are real and they are happening all around us.
To remain healthy in a world that feels overwhelming, we have to be intentional about what we feed our minds. Just as we choose what we eat, we often can choose what we expose our nervous system to. Constant shock and outrage exhaust us. Steady examples of integrity and kindness strengthen us.
We need spaces that help us remember who we are. Spaces where we slow down. Where we experience trust and safety. Beautiful things grow in such spaces. From there, we return to the world with renewed trust in kindness. We feel the support of like-minded people around us. And we become more determined to contribute to the small part of the world that is actually within our reach, pouring our love and attention there to the best of our ability.
Here are some upcoming events that are created precisely for this purpose: to strengthen inner calm, rebuild confidence, and reconnect us with the warmth of our shared humanity. In doing so, we remember that our soul naturally wants to grow towards the light.
Sending you positive energy, may you and your family be safe <3
