About the event
Do you wish to improve your relationships by communicating on a deeper level and really connect with others? Discover the power of Connecting Communication during this training!Â
In this training you learn how to listen and speak in an empathetic and respectful way, so that conflicts can be resolved in a respectful way and relationships can be strengthened. By being authentically yourself, being in touch with your own needs and being better able to name your feelings, you can express yourself more effectively. You become aware of judgements and assumptions that play a role, giving you more clarity on what matters to you. Empathic listening allows you to be more open to the other person's true story. There is room to really hear the other person and therefore better understand them.Â
This training, based on Nonviolent Communication by Marshall Rosenberg, helps you to better understand what is going on in conflicts and how to create more harmony in your relationships. Discover how Connecting Communication can transform your life!
More about Connecting Communication
The fear of being honest is often because we don't want to hurt the other person, don't want them to take our words as judgement or blame. Because we want to avoid conflict and keep the peace. No matter how contradictory, in doing so we lose our connection with the other person and the other person with us. Tensions arise that accumulate and can later lead to conflict. "If I am not myself, who is there to love you?".
Clearly, good communication is an art that cannot be taken for granted. Conflict and tension often arise when people do things for the other person that they don't feel like doing. It is giving like a transaction. You do it, but out of obligation, social expectation, guilt, fear of punishment/rejection or even the reward of love and approval you get for it. Resentment and (power) inequality arise in the relationship: "I only did this for you".Â
Besides conflict, this also leads to alienation from yourself: "What do I really want? What do I need to be happy?". This already becomes difficult to answer if you are always preoccupied with the needs of others. Complaints like depression, indifference, anxiety, addiction, burnout and midlife crisis, can stem from it. Gabor Maté, the famous doctor who does a lot of research on trauma and behaviour, even claims that many physical complaints, especially autoimmune diseases, have to do with how far you have become removed from your authenticity:your feelings, how you deal with them and how you express them. Body and mind blend together.
To do this differently, Marshall Rosenberg, psychologist, developed "Nonviolent Communication" also called Connecting Communication or Empathic Communication. An emotional, vulnerable and creative communication method that is now taught and practised all over the world. The aim of this communication is to be happier by being better connected to yourself, listening to your heart and therefore living (better) in harmony with others. It is direct, effective, clear and, above all, focused on attention and respect for the needs of all parties.
Learning objectives
This training focuses on the following learning questions:

How can I listen empathically to what is really going on in the other person? What the other person really wants to convey regardless of the words chosen?
How can I better convey my feelings and needs without the other person hearing it as criticism or blame?
How do I learn to better understand/recognise what is really going on in a conflict?
How can I make concrete requests that make life more beautiful?
