Again about Marketing

24th March 2012

From Prejudice to Discrimination

9th December 2011

Everyone is different, but 'we' have also very much in common. People are frequently classified in groups, it is ever so easy to talk about black, white, Moroccan, Surinam, Dutch, homosexuals, heterosexuals, Christians, Hindus, Moslems or atheïsts. Herewith arise 'pictures', ideas and opinions concerning groups that start to dominate the public opinion, even though they are not correct and for sure do not apply to a whole group. Discrimination is the unequal treatment of people based on characteristics hat are not relevant, such as source, skin colour, sex and sexual preference. The difference with preconceptions is, that is not only is about ideas, but about what is said and done.
Okay, many of these pictures, ideas and opinions arisen in the past, people realize it is nonsense. Like the idea that blank are malignant and blacks are stupid. Or that all Dutch walk on wooden shoes or smoke pot.
Why is it that people still discriminatel? What can I do against discrimination? Where do you start? At school, at home, with yourself?
9 February we will project the documentary 'Help! An homosexual in the klas' van Human. Dennis Boutkan will afterwards comment upon this and discuss the topic. Dennis is the COC Amsterdam'president and partner at Upstream Consulting Seize this opportunity to discussion your concerns and what we encounter in our own surroundings...

Where would we be without Marketing?!

30th March 2011

'Having Dinner with...' is a new event series by NOT ANOTHER. Offering the possibility to our people the deepen knowledge on Stories told earlier. Small group, true interaction, more connection.

'Having Dinner with...' is a new event series by NOT ANOTHER. Offering the possibility to our people the deepen knowledge on Stories told earlier. Small group, true interaction, more connection.

This time we invited to the table Henry Robben. Henry has one leading principle 'you get what you need, not what you ask for'. Almost on a daily basis he stumbles upon examples of entrepreneurs not examining the complete spectrum and as such, though being bright and with the best intention, can't be innovative. You can't become a market leader without being a marketing leader. The market won't say WAUW when the next imitation of Apple's or Google's will be presented. We can only reform the market when we offer new authentic solutions.

So, do you really create value with your service? Verify the 6C of value creation: Create customer value; are you indispensably for your customer; Commit your organization to the market: ongoing change management; Cash the customer value: what are the net results to you and the customer; Concentrate your activities, focus your activities on your customer; Communicate what you do, what you don't do, what you do deliver and what you don't deliver; Continue to process these components into a routine with personal attention.

In short what is then the result of our strategy, for our customers, our employees, the society (!), other interested parties and also our financial partners. How can we really add value? This we can have 'At the Table'! Henry Robben is professor of innovative marketing at Nyenrode and serves as an independent consultant to companies. Professor or not, as said, Henry won't give answers, that is your call as entrepreneur!

CSR 2.0

13th January 2011

ONEforONE is a new consumer movement for direct aid in developing countries. Buying a product here, you help someone there to the same type of product. In America this 'buy one give one'- principle already is an enormous trend. ONEforONE aims at basic needs and started with water and energy. With the sale of waterbottles the construction of water wells is financed, and on behalf of consumers who subscribed to the green energy of Greenchoice, the development of solar-energie in Africa is sponsored. Wouter Durville has established its venture deliberately as a - social - venture, in order not to be dependent of subsidies or donation. Isn't this the Development Aid 2.0?!

FIFTEEN Amsterdam combine good food and hospitality with training young people to be chefs. Annually they give 15 up to 20 young with poor job prospects a new chance. Based on the successful restaurant Fifteen by TV-chef Jamie Oliver from London. Certainly in this time with a rising youth unemployment, Fifteen finds it important to contribute, by  inspiring young people to have a beautiful career in the restaurant world. In December a new group has started, already eighth group and this time they are 'Wajong-ers'. A beautiful example of MVO 2.0, isn't it?!

Enrich yourself by listening to the principles those two businesses hold high. Ofcourse there is room for discussion.

What makes an entrepreneur successful?!

3rd November 2010

Storytelling:
Venue:

An Entrepreneur is 'someone who mixes ingredient, while sticking to a recipe or adjusting the recipe to what is at hand or finding something completely new". This is how Neil Borden in 1949 stated it, and this was named the 'Marketingmix'. Classical marketing calls these ingredients: Price, Product, Place, Promotion.

A couple decennia later it is all less simple. If people discuss the price, you most likely lack experience or storytelling'. You product needs to be remarkable according to Seth Godin, a Purple Cow. There are all sort of places to sell and within 5 minutes you can redo your facebook into a webshop.  Promotion is the worst nightmare because no one pays attention to advertisement and all other tools mushroom as never before.

So what determines your succes? The fifth P, Person? According to Malcolm Gladwell are Outliers the ones: Luck, A bit of Talent and 10.000 hours of practise.
Practise requires another magical word: passion! Seth Godin again says you can lead a 'Tribe' with it.

Willem Sodderland has maybe some talent, anyway he has over 10.000 hours of practise as entrepreneur. He leads his international Tribe, the Buzzers. With them he has turned around the traditional world of marketing by reviving the ancient tool: Word of Mouth. He started 5 enterprises, adviced more than a handful of other businesses and is an 'incubator' and coach. To him 'Guts' is the bottum-line. Guts to act and do different, to offer st extra-ordinary and have the Guts to get sharp feedback.

Opportunities in Healthcare

Social Media 'Nice to have', 'a must have' or ..... a-social?

Previous year Twitter and Facebook where the talk of the town. We can share nowadays (almost) everything with each other by means of Social Media And we also do so!

'It is completely normal that the most companies no social mediums have policy. Sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Youtube and also Linkedin, which therefore also employees are used during the work, are sites which productivity down halen' (free translated Wired magazine)

This sentence suggests that the use of social mediums is purely private. Is that true? You can use also Social mediums on behalf of the company and start the dialogue with customers. But also with employees   - okay, with certain frameworks of desired and undesirable behaviour.

What is 'Social Media' really? And what or where will it lead us in the future as an entrepreneur and as a person (a-social)?

Martijn Arts (www.totalactivemedia.nl) will talk us through the 'social mediums landscape'.

Martijn started ZaPPWeRK during his study. In 2006, ZaPPWeRK the new name Total Active Media became part of Total Identity Holding company. This is a process that in itself is a worth a story. And supposedly his personal experiences as an entrepreneur will be dealt with during the Story telling!

Storytelling:    Marjan van Lier  www.qcredits.nl
Location:         Amsterdam centre

Qredits, Microcredits in the Netherlands - did you know that 'we' needed that?

In the seventies the Grameen Bank for microcredits was set up by Muhammud Yunus in Bangladesh. The bank is property of the borrowers and n the meantime the very poorest have saved up to 6 billions dollar. People of the Grameen Bank visit their customers at home in their villages, collect weekly the amount, the interest and the savings and they coach the entrepreneur. The last years many Western countries have adopted this model. Qredits is one of them. What distinguishes them from the regular banks, is the tailor-made approach towards small entrepreneurs. Thereby we adopt a positive approach: we look to the future rather then to the past.
Qcredits is a Not for Profit org. and an unique initiative of ABN Amro Bank, Fortis bank, ING and Rabobank in association with foundation 'work to live', Ministry of Economic Affairs and Ministry of Social Affairs. Aim of this foundation is promote the development of the small company by offering specific credit attribution and coachings facilities to small entrepreneurs or self-employed persons (ZZP' ers).

Marjan van Lier will show with how little it costs to give some people a chance to set up a small business and changing their lives by being independent
And, moreover, how very closeby the world is so different. Coachen one of these start-ups is unique and socially rewarding.

Qredits is supported by the Council for microfinancing of which Princess Maxima is the honorary President.

Marjan van Lier is part of the governing Board of Qcredits and is owner of Carnac in Amsterdam. She has also set up a foundation for the street children of Bangladesh. She is the author of 'nooit meer werken' and 'wakker worden op je werk'.

Business Models of the Future

Storytelling:    Patrick van der Pijl www.businessmodelsinc.com

New and innovative business models
Today countless innovative business models are emerging. Entire new industries are created and old ones disrupted. New players are challenging established ones who are feverishly trying to reinvent themselves. How is your organization's business model going to look two, five or even ten years from now? Will you be among the dominating players in the future? Will you face new competitors with new and innovative business models?

Business model innovation is about value creation - value for companies and value for customers - and about replacing outdated models along the way. How can we systematically dream-up , design and implement these new and powerful business models? How can we question, challenge and transform our old and outdated ones? How can we turn visionary ideas into game changing business models that challenge the establishment or rejuvenate it if we are part of it?

You will be introduced to the 'Business Model Canvas', existing of nine building blocks. Companies that understand each building block and their relationship will be able to continually improve their own business model and adapt to the changing needs of the market and the customers.

The storytelling is based on the new book of Patrick van der Pijl & Alex Osterwalder, 'Business Model Generation' that was published this very September 2009. The book is written by using a new and innovative business model: 470 persons took part in writing the book using a special online platform. Designing, editing and publishing the book was also done 'another way'. Find out how by signing up for 10th December.

So, do ask yourself the question, how obvious it might sound: 'What exactly is my business model'? Even a 'one man consultancy concept working by the hour' needs to define its business model and for sure there is a different approach possible than you ever thought of yourself. So join us and find out!

Stichting Nobel is a start-up that forms a bridge between the worlds of good causes and profit. Established in 2006 by Jasmijn Andringa, Nobel uses creative projects to tackle social problems. During Nobel's first two years, Jasmijn accomplished this by helping good causes with advertising campaigns that brought their message to a wider public in innovative ways. She launched Nobelematch.nl, a matching site on which good causes, creatives and companies can find each other and, if a match is created, decide themselves to join forces.

A few months ago Jasmijn decided to take Nobel in another direction, and she know thinks up creative projects herself, with a 12-member board of directors, all heavyweights from the communications world, that tackle social problems directly. This involves her in working no longer only within the framework of advertising. A project can now take various forms. The first of these projects from the 'new' Nobel will launch this summer. She wants to use it to put the imminent shortage of blood donors on the agenda, and together with clothing brand Blueblood she's designing clothing that can only be bought with your blood.
